Lord and Lady's Hall Undergoes A Princely Transformation: October 2001

Equator, the most advanced hot and cold water and central heating system from Marley Plumbing & Drainage, has recently been installed at £5.5 million Gisborough Hall Hotel in Guisborough, North Yorkshire. Marley supplied the main contractors with a trial pack of Equator containing 8 meters of Equator PE-X pipe and enough fittings to plumb an average sized cloakroom before the company decided to switch from specifying copper to plastic for this major installation. High performance, ease of installation and cost effectiveness rivalling those of traditional copper systems were among the features offered by Marley's Equator.

A Grade II listed building built in 1857, formally home to Admiral Thomas Chaloner and residential home to the Army in World War Two, the old hall is undergoing refurbishment in order to be transformed into a 4 star rated hotel, comprising function rooms, 5 conference rooms and 71 bedrooms, featuring Equator throughout. Steve Gilley, Site Manager of Quartz Electrical & Mechanical Services Ltd., the main contractors, stated ³This project presented a significant size installation for ourselves and we had never used a plastic system for such a substantial development before but the choice of Equator from Marley was our preference. While we usually use copper, it comes in smaller lengths, whereas plastic comes in long lengths so it is quicker to install as less joining is needed, making life easier for the installer². Equator is the only UK system manufactured from cross-linked polyethylene (PE-X), high grade engineering plastic. Widely used on the continent PE-X is generally recognised as the most advanced material with superior performance characteristics. Push-fit components, unique to the Equator range, also ensure a professional, quick and clean installation every time without the need for solder, flux or blow-torches. When installed the product is tamper proof yet is easily demountable by the plumber, using a uniquely developed tool. As well as being backed by a 30 year guarantee, Equator has excellent chemical and temperature resistance and long-term durability. Equator has just been awarded an Agrément certificate for 10mm, 15mm and 22mm pipe diameters. 28mm approval is imminent. Since its launch there has been a considerable move within the industry towards plastic from copper and Equator has continued to gain market share, establishing itself as the fastest growing product in this sector.
