A scale drawing of the room should be available,
showing the position of any permanent floor fixtures such as bath,
shower tray, kitchen units, built-in cupboards, etc. Underfloor
heating should not be laid under such items; the remaining portion
is the Œlive¹ floor area. It is recommended that a single underfloor
heating valve should not serve an area greater than 15m2, in order
to minimise pump head requirements.
The room heat requirement should be
calculated in Watts using normal design methods, except:
Exclude heat loss through the floor.
Assume the room design air temperature
to be 1ºC below the normal design value.
Divide the room heat requirement by the live
floor area, this will show the minimum heat output required from
the floor surface. This figure must not be greater than what the
underfloor heating system is able to deliver. The output of the
equator single zone underfloor heating system will depend on the
thickness of the floor screed and the type of floor covering.
